Who Is Asmongold? Far-Right Streamer Zack Hoyt In His Own Words

One of the most the most prolific online posters of hate and violence is “Asmongold,” whose real name is Zack Hoyt. Following the migrant crisis in Ceuta, Spain, in August 2026, where a plethora of right-wing influencers and extremists fomented hate and violence against migrants, Asmongold stood out for his extremism, as he called for all migrants to be shot, saying “I’d shoot whoever… if it’s kids, women, men, whoever.”

Asmongold’s violent comments earned him a temporary suspension from Twitch, a livestreaming platform where he has over 2.6 million followers combined on his two channels. At the time of publishing, Asmongold was back on Twitch and posting videos on YouTube, where he has over six million subscribers combined on his two channels. The streamer’s hateful remarks in recent years have earned him the admiration of neo-Nazi streamer Nick Fuentes, who called him “a great ally.” His fans echo his calls for violence and spew similar bigoted rhetoric on online forums including Reddit.

Hoyt got his start making videos of himself playing World of Warcraft, an online role-playing game that he estimated in 2022 he had played for over 36,000 hours. Hoyt’s gaming career peaked between 2021 and 2023, during which he won “Best MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) Streamer” in 2021 and 2022, and was nominated for the same award in 2023. During this time, Hoyt cultivated a fan base, dubbed “roaches,” after he gained online infamy for being unkempt: not showering for months, refusing to do laundry, having a trash-laden room, and being undeterred by cockroaches climbing on his body while streaming. For the most part, Hoyt’s streaming was centered on gaming and online gossip.

Hoyt’s foray into racist politics didn’t truly begin until 2024 (aside from a brief endeavor in 2022 when he contacted Ted Cruz’s office regarding “loot boxes” in games, which critics suggest is akin to gambling for kids since it acts as a “virtual lottery”). In October 2024, Hoyt was suspended from Twitch after showing disdain for Palestinian citizens killed by Israeli soldiers, saying Palestinians are “terrible people… These people are not your allies. They are not the same as us. They come from an inferior culture that is horrible.”

Since then, Hoyt’s mission is clear: “My goal with talking about this stuff is to radicalize people as much as possible… and I portray this stuff in the most extreme and negative way so I can make people angry and they’ll be willing to follow the solutions that I want them to follow.” The r/Asmongold Reddit forum demonstrates how Hoyt’s rhetoric is infused into his audience. On one Reddit thread, users claim Muslims and Islam in general are “backwards” and responsible for creating a “massive problem” in Europe. In some instances, fans of Hoyt share his beliefs advocating extreme violence against Americans, such as one comment on a video about Black people partying at a Houston gas station saying “one small drone strike could solve so many problems at once.” Another comment on a Reddit thread about a video game character in Marvel’s Wolverine not looking “feminine” enough, called for other users to “Cease (sic) as much power as you can and send these c_nts (sic) to the mines,” referring to so-called “woke” video game developers (harassing and calling for violence against women adjacent to the video game industry and those perceived to be “woke” are core tenets of the misogynistic #GamerGate campaigns).
