New from GPAHE: Far-Right Hate and Extremist Groups Country Report: Argentina
In a groundbreaking report, GPAHE this week released an in-depth analysis of Argentina’s history of racism and antisemitism since the colonial era and the disturbing recent emergence of far-right movements that threaten democracy and human rights.
GPAHE’s report identifies eight far-right organizations that are active in Argentina. These include neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups, such as the Front Patriota Federal and Bandera Negra, which have been involved in violent activities and the spread of hate propaganda. Far-right influencers closely linked to President Javier Milei’s administration, like “Gordo Dan,” have exploited social media platforms to amplify extremist rhetoric. Milei is tightly enmeshed in transnational far-right political circles, and his administration has enacted anti-LGBTQ+ policies.
Argentina’s legacy of fascism and its modern manifestations pose significant threats not only to its democratic institutions but also to global efforts to combat hate and extremism.

New from GPAHE: Constitutional Sheriffs Organization Meeting with Conspiracists and Election Deniers
The Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association (CSPOA), led by Richard Mack, has been quietly planning for a potential “next insurrection,” according to a recent investigation. The group, which makes the bogus claim that sheriffs hold the ultimate authority at the county level, has been making inroads with local political organizations and election deniers, and is about to host a conference in Orlando, where election deniers and far-right activists will gather. Their insurrectionary plans focus on using local sheriffs to resist federal authority, echoing the dangerous rhetoric seen during the January 6th Capitol Insurrection.

NPR: The arrest of Telegram’s founder has spooked the far right in the U.S.
“And so there was a general freak-out, basically, by white supremacists claiming that this was the deep state, that it’s finally coming in to do a censorship regime, that this was a dictatorial move. But there was also a lot of anxiety.” Heidi Beirich, co-founder of GPAHE.
GPAHE’s take: In this NPR interview, GPAHE’s Heidi Beirich discusses the recent arrest in France of the founder of the unregulated social media site Telegram, Pavel Durov, which hosts dozens of white supremacists and other extremists. Durov’s legal troubles have sparked alarm within U.S. far-right communities, where fear over increased scrutiny and a potential platform shutdown is rife. Telegram is a key communications platform for these movements, and its loss might prove devastating to their activities, hence the alarm. Monitoring how this event influences online discourse and regulatory policies will be crucial in efforts to curb the spread of hate and extremism online.
