New from GPAHE: Violent Online Threats Against Judges Continue To Rise as Trump Officials Increase their Attacks

This week’s follow up to GPAHE’s initial investigation into threats against the judiciary which found a 54% rise in violent threats against judges between January and February, has found that the number of threats in March has already eclipsed those in February, driven by attacks from Trump, his allies, and far-right media. On platforms like Gab, users openly call to “hang” and “execute” specific judges and the so-called “activist” judges in general, reflecting a broader pattern of authoritarian pressure on the judiciary. The threats spiked after Trump targeted specific judges, highlighting the increasing risks to the rule of law.

This dangerous rhetoric mirrors actions seen in authoritarian regimes like Hungary and Argentina. We fear these developments threaten the very independence of the judiciary and heighten the erosion of democracy and the rule of law.

As GPAHE co-founder Heidi Beirich told ABC News, “[The administration] doesn’t like what they’re seeing in the courts, and this is setting up what may very well be a constitutional crisis about the independence of the judiciary.”

New from GPAHE: Podcasters Platforming Antisemitism

Mainstream podcasts, including those hosted by Joe Rogan and Patrick Bet-David, are increasingly becoming platforms for amplifying antisemitic conspiracy theories and extremist rhetoric. With vast audiences and little oversight, these shows contribute to normalizing dangerous ideologies, exacerbating the polarization of our nation. GPAHE also underscores how the promotion of far-right views through these podcasts can radicalize listeners, leading to real-world consequences like harassment and violence. The mainstreaming of bigoted extremist ideologies and conspiracy theories by influential people serves to further push the bounds of what should be acceptable to our society.

DW: How the Trump presidency is boosting private border militias

In a recent DW interview, GPAHE co-founder Heidi Beirich discusses President Trump’s aggressive immigration policies and highlights the increasing role of private militias, which have offered their support for the administration’s border enforcement efforts. This goes hand-in-hand with growing concerns from communities facing the militarization of law enforcement. DW’s reporting mirrors findings in GPAHE’s piece, The Borderland Marauders: Clicks, Guns, and the New Face of Vigilantism, which explores how far-right groups have embedded themselves in border security, blurring the lines between official law enforcement and extremist actions.
