GPAHE Brings You the Latest News in Far-Right Hate and Extremism

RFI: France to ban far-right Catholic group for ‘legitimizing violence’

“Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin has announced that he intends to disband Academia Christiana, a movement of far-right traditionalist Catholics that he accuses of justifying and inciting violence. The group ‘repeatedly legitimizes physical violence and the use of arms,’ an interior ministry source told Le Parisien newspaper. ‘It uses the vocabulary of war and explicitly encourages its supporters to arm themselves and go on a crusade.’”

GPAHE’s take: Academia Christiana is a rising, influential force in the French Identitarian movement whose bigoted views were previously included in GPAHE’s France Country Report. We also recently profiled the group’s leader, Victor Aubert, in our piece “Prominent Identitarian Groups and Individuals to Watch.” Through their conferences and summer schools, Academia Christiana serves as a common vector for the various local Identitarian and neo-fascist groups across the country, including several that engage in overtly anti-democratic and violent behavior in France.

Marine Corps Times: The Pentagon working group to combat extremism could be finished

“Lawmakers moved this week to abolish a Pentagon working group aimed at preventing extremism in the military, a decision some advocates said reveals a lack of concern about the issue from Congress. ‘…The end of the Countering Extremist Activity Work Group would mean the Pentagon will face less accountability as it works to implement the group’s recommended reforms,’ argued Wendy Via, co-founder of the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism.”

GPAHE’s take: Initiatives like this working group, dedicated to combating extremism in the military, must remain active. If this bill passes, the responsibilities of implementing proposed reforms would be siloed, complicating the ability to address extremist threats. Our co-founder Heidi Beirich has testified before Congress to warn lawmakers of the dangers of white supremacist movements in the U.S. military and among U.S. military veterans. We will continue to work to expose extremist threats to both.

Byline Times: ‘These LGBT Freaks – Do We Have Them Castrated?’: Inside Europe’s Invite-Only Conversion Therapy Conference

Byline Times can reveal that a project of a charity registered in Northern Ireland held a conference in Poland where delegates heard about conversion therapy techniques, how fundamentalist Christian leaders met with British MPs and lords to convince them to fight against conversion therapy bans, and asked whether castration would get rid of ‘LGBT freaks.’”

GPAHE’s take: GPAHE has conducted extensive research profiling conversion therapy proponents in Europe, and further afield, who are perpetuating hateful, dangerous anti-LGBTQ+ propaganda.

Reuters: Elon Musk to take part in Italy PM’s right-wing political festival

“Billionaire Elon Musk has accepted an invitation from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to attend a gathering of her right-wing political party this weekend in Rome. Musk on Tuesday replied ‘yes’ to a post on social media platform X, which he owns, saying he had ‘reportedly accepted’ the invite, and linking to an Italian newspaper article.”

GPAHE’s take: This is another disturbing example of Elon Musk leveraging X to flirt with right-wing politicians, including a recent alleged invite from Argentina’s newly-inaugurated right-wing populist president Javier Milei. We’ve spoken out against X’s unacceptable moderation practices throughout this year, and will continue to do so wherever Musk and X amplify voices of hate and extremism.
