GPAHE’s new Counterterrorism Fact Sheet examines how the Trump administration has dismantled key parts of the federal government’s domestic counterterrorism infrastructure while shifting attention away from far-right extremism, identified for years by U.S. federal agencies as the primary domestic terrorism threat. It documents cuts to staffing, funding, prevention programs, and research across multiple agencies, alongside the appointment of officials with histories of promoting extremist narratives.
The analysis also details the administration’s embrace of ideas long associated with the white supremacist movement, including the promotion of “remigration” ideology, and efforts to downplay the threat of far-right extremism. It argues that replacing evidence-based counterterrorism policies with politically-driven priorities has weakened the government’s ability to protect the American people.
