GPAHE’s Project 2025 Blog Series

GPAHE continues to track Project 2025’s supporters, and our blog series is an important resource for staying up to date on all things Project 2025.

Check out this week’s update, where we look at a cell phone company supporting Project 2025 members that has influenced politics in rural Texas; how media platform Real America’s Voice, founded by a man with a longtime criminal history and buoyed by Steve Bannon, spreads misinformation and transphobia as it amplifies Project 2025’s message; and hear celebratory reactions from Project 2025 organizations to Arizona’s near total abortion ban based on a law written in 1864.

A Public Affair from WORT 89.9FM: The Threat of “Project 2025” with Wendy Via

“‘The idea that Americans can take for granted that our institutions will hold, that our democracy is so solid that nothing can happen to it. I think that is a mistake,’ [Via] tells listeners. ‘I do not want people to be afraid–I just want people to exercise their rights within our democratic process. Is it possible for a right-wing president to get into office and destroy a lot of our democratic foundations? I think the answer is yes.’”

GPAHE’s take: Exposing the sinister plans outlined in the far right 900-page playbook, Project 2025, has been a primary focus of GPAHE this year. Alongside the blog series highlighted above, we encourage you to engage with our in-depth Project 2025 analysis and examine the policy proposals firsthand. The more we educate ourselves on the contents and motives embedded in this document that takes us on the road to authoritarianism, the better equipped we will be to safeguard our democracy.

NEW from GPAHE: Escalating Conflict in Middle East Spurs Growth in Violent Online Hate Speech

We have been closely monitoring the rise in antisemitic and anti-Muslin hate speech and hate violence, which has exploded since the Hamas attacks in Israel last October. Our data collection from loosely and unmoderated platforms such as 4chan, Gab, Truth Social, and forums in the Fediverse—a network of community-owned, ad-free, decentralized, and privacy-centric social networks—reveals a significant increase in calls for violence and the use of extreme slurs against both Jews and Muslims in the past week since Iran attacked Israel.

“On 4chan, instances of extreme antisemitism, such as the use of slurs and calling for violence against Jews, were measured at 196 posts on April 11 and 173 on April 12. These numbers grew over the weekend, skyrocketing to 379 on April 13, representing a nearly 100 percent increase before dropping slightly to 307 on April 14.”

Expresso: Viktor Orbán uses universities, news agencies in Europe to spread anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-immigration propaganda

“According to GPAHE, much of this influence is obtained through the Hungarian-American community and American lobbying firms. This includes the Hungarian American Federation, an organization that represents the Hungarian expatriate community in the United States and supports Orbán’s policies.” [translated from Portuguese]

GPAHE’s Take: Last week, we profiled seven Pro-Orbán organizations working to undermine liberal democracy in the U.S. and Europe. We’ve outlined one of the organizations here in a thread on X (Twitter). Read more about this growing network of organizations working to export Hungary’s “electoral autocracy” to other countries, including the U.S.
