New from GPAHE: The Road to Insurrection: Trump’s Posse Comitatus Bypass Attempt
By transferring control of a 632-mile strip of federal land known as the Roosevelt Reservation to the Department of Defense, Trump is attempting to sidestep the Posse Comitatus Act, a post-Civil War law that restricts military involvement in civilian law enforcement. Framed as a national security measure, the plan is a way to use the military against migrants while claiming they are simply “policing” military installations. This legal workaround could have potentially far-reaching implications and may ultimately lay the groundwork for invoking the Insurrection Act to authorize mass deportations.

The rise in political violence in the U.S., exemplified by violent incidents in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, underscores the alarming spread of extremist ideologies. A neo-Nazi assassination plot targeting Donald Trump and an antisemitic arson attack on Governor Josh Shapiro highlight the growing and unpredictable nature of extremist violence. The rollback of federal efforts to counter white supremacy and far-right terrorism has weakened the government’s ability to address these threats. As radical ideologies infiltrate mainstream discourse, the danger of deadly attacks continues to rise.
