The External Affairs and Advocacy Lead (EAAL) plays a critical role in ensuring that GPAHE can fulfill its mission and vision. This role will align messaging, advocacy, and engagement efforts so that GPAHE’s work builds public understanding, mobilizes partners, and drives meaningful policy impact. This position ensures that GPAHE’s research, policy priorities, and institutional partnerships are translated into compelling public narratives, coordinated advocacy strategies, and strong relationships with policymakers, partners, advocacy coalitions, and the public.

The EAAL will lead the strategy, execution, and project management components of our advocacy across a wide range of tactics: convenings, virtual programming, campaigns, coalitions and partnerships, policy analysis, and legislative tracking and relationship building. This role will include working on both domestic and international policy issues relating to preserving democracy, combating extremism, and fighting for a fair and just world. In addition, this role will entail working with organization staff to identify, support, and advance advocacy goals.

The right candidate will be nimble and equally comfortable with creating the perfect project management spreadsheet or coordinating with external partners and vendors to maximize GPAHE’s program impact. Role:

• Lead the strategy amplifying GPAHE’s reports, publications, campaigns, and public-facing materials to expand the organization’s public footprint and influence; ensure information is communicated and leveraged across policymakers and partners to advance GPAHE’s broader public affairs and advocacy goals.
• Represent GPAHE and collaborate with groups and coalitions engaged in this field.
• Collaborate on webinar strategy and processes.
• Lead management of advocacy campaigns, connecting with the GPAHE team.
• Engage in direct outreach to Congressional offices and committees, and other bodies including state legislatures, to amplify GPAHE’s core messages, develop strategies for legislative engagement, and disseminate GPAHE materials to policymakers and stakeholders.
• Develop written deliverables, including talking points, emails, fact sheets, letters, testimony, and other materials.
• Conduct relevant research on policy issues by using methods such as database searches, FOIA requests, and interviews.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for federal and state legislative tracking.
• Assist in managing and expanding a database of key contacts in Washington, D.C. and Brussels (legislative and executive branch, multilateral organizations, foreign embassy staff, and the NGO community)
• Develop and maintain relationships with international partners and policymakers.
• Maintain familiarity with relevant policy issues, debates, and proposals.
• Model a collaborative, inclusive, respectful and personable team environment.

Qualifications:

• Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence to interact with staff, partners, and other stakeholders.
• Relevant experience in congressional and policymaker relations.
• Experience writing concisely and effectively.
• Advocacy experience at the national and state levels, with knowledge of the extremism and democracy space preferred.
• Facility with data management and the use of varied software systems.
• Flexibility to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced culture.
• Strong organizational and time management skills; self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
• Humor, curiosity and energy to support the spirit of collaboration and learning among team members.
• Alignment with and enthusiasm for the mission and work of GPAHE.
• A Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of relevant work experience.
• Must be able to provide valid proof of U.S. work authorization.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Work designation: This role is fully remote within the United States. The EAAL may be required to travel for occasional meetings or activities as determined by GPAHE.
